Alexandra Frost accepts referrals from GP’s, entertainment agents, teachers, speech pathologists, mental health first aid officers, medical colleges, other psychologists, and psychiatrists. A GP Mental Health Treatment Plan referral may make Medicare rebates available. Self-referral without a GP referral is also accepted, typically without a Medicare rebate.
Do you need a referral to work with Alexandra Frost?
No you do not need a referral, you can self refer directly.
A referral becomes relevant if you want to access a Medicare rebate and meet certain criteria to qualify: your GP, psychiatrist or paediatrician can complete a Mental Health Treatment Plan and referral letter, which typically covers an initial 6 sessions, to be reviewed for a maximum of 10 sessions in a calendar year
Who refers people into this work?
- GPs and psychiatrists: Via a Mental Health Treatment Plan for Medicare-rebated sessions
- Other psychologists and allied health professionals: For clients whose presentation includes a significant performance component
- Agents, teachers, conservatoires and colleges: For performers or students facing a specific high stakes event or where psychological support has been identified as important to address issues affecting wellbeing or performance
- Medical colleges and hospital education programs: For registrars preparing for fellowship exams
What should a referral include?
For Medicare rebated referrals, your GP’s letter needs to include the presenting issue, confirmation of a Mental Health Treatment Plan, and the referring provider’s details.
Referrals don’t need to name a specific practitioner and if another practitioner has been seen before, the remaining sessions may be used by a new psychologist
What if it's urgent?
Let us know when booking if there’s time pressure such as for an exam, audition or performance date and we’ll look at what’s possible within that timeframe, including a waitlist option if needed.
